If you are trying to figure out what it costs to store a car near Hartford County, the honest answer is that it depends on where you keep it and how well it is looked after. Here is how the price breaks down and what you actually get at each level.
What goes into the price
Car storage is priced on four things. Where it is stored, indoor or outdoor. How much space your vehicle takes. How long you commit for, monthly or a prepaid season. And whether anyone is actually caring for the car while it sits. A cheap monthly rate with no care is a very different product from a space where the battery is kept charged and someone looks the car over every week.
Rough numbers in the Hartford County area
- Open outdoor lot: around $60 to $125 a month. Lowest price, but the car sits in sun, snow and road salt.
- Self-storage unit: often $150 to $300 a month for a unit large enough for a car. Indoors, but built for boxes, not vehicles, with no vehicle care.
- Dedicated indoor vehicle storage: typically $300 and up a month. Built for cars, climate controlled, with real documentation and vehicle care included.
Prices move with the season. Demand for indoor space is highest from October through the first snow, so the best rates go to people who book early.
What three months really costs
Three months in an outdoor spot might run $200 to $400. Three months indoors at a monthly rate is more like $900 to $1,200. That gap is the cost of keeping the car out of the weather and off a public lot. For a daily driver you are parking for a short trip, outdoor can be fine. For a car you have put money into, the indoor number is the one that matters.
The cheapest option is rarely the right one
The lowest price is almost always an open lot or a borrowed garage. What those save you up front they cost you in flat spots on the tires, a dead battery in the spring, mice in the air box and paint that has spent months under the weather. Storage is one of those things where the cheapest choice is the expensive one once you add up the spring repairs.
What we charge
At Private Auto Storage in Enfield, our indoor rate is month to month, and the better value for the cold months is the prepaid season.
- Winter Season Deal: $1,800 for a car, November 1 to April 30, prepaid. Six months month to month would run $2,100. Motorcycles are $500 for the season.
- Outdoor RV and boat: $125 a month month to month, or $650 prepaid for the winter season. The lot is monitored and open air, so the indoor care system does not apply out there.
Every indoor-stored vehicle includes full video intake and outtake with mileage and fuel documented, a battery tender all season, tire pressure and voltage checks, and a wellbeing check every week. You can take every service or just the spot. Your call.
